What My Business Does

In Thirty-Five (35) words or so ... what do I do? What does my business do? What will I do as a professional offering services?

If I had thirty seconds to sell you my services, what would I say?

What is my Domain?

What am I paid to do? (If I look at what I have been paid to do, what have I done?) What do I want to be paid to do (by specific tasks)?

What do I think I am doing? (What have I paid a consultant to help me do or consider?)

What do my customers need? (When I look at myself from a customer's perspective, what is it that they want, what function do I fill for them?)

Designing a Marketing Plan:

Who am I?

Why am I here?

What will I do after graduation?

In the very first lecture you introduced yourself, explained what your background was, what you hoped to achieve from the class and asked a question. Now, the final question is asked of you.

The first question - Who am I? - asks two questions:

The second question - Why am I here? - really asks two questions:

The third question - What will I do after graduation? - is really:

Most people in a dispute resolution program will not market themselves as dispute resolution professionals. They will be marketing themselves as professionals who have had dispute resolution training. That is, they are not selling the training, they are selling themselves with the training as something that makes them more valuable.

Others will actually market their skills and training. This project is to help you decide what you intend to do. There will be no penalty for whatever choice you make, only for not clearly thinking about what you are doing. That is, you are not graded for which choice, but for making a choice and thinking clearly about it.

The decisions you make will change over and over again in life. As long as you think clearly about the decisions you are making, you'll be fine. Just answer the questions "who am I, why am I here" and "what will I do after graduation" in a total of one thousand words or less to fulfill this project.
