Essay Seven (Part Two) .....................................................................................................................................................................................................

Last thoughts on Rhadi Ferguson and his products.

First, many of them take a great deal of courage.  He is talking about his mistakes, failures and misses.  Instead of a triumph, you have a down low view of every miss-step and wrong turn he took, from offending referees he should have deferred to, to his mistaking a fluid for a gas and the problems that caused him.  It is blunt and honest, but he is giving you the full view.

Second, over and over again you will get a view of how much he loves and respects Judo. Sure, he is famous in many circles for his advocacy that Judo players need to cross-train in JuJitsu or Wrestling to improve their ground work and their games, but his deep regard for the gi (and the need to spend 95% of your training time in the gi, even if you compete in a no-gi sport), his love and respect for throwing techniques and his love of the sport come through.

Third, that seems to explain why he spends so much time on Judo even though he makes his money, his real money, doing other things.

Finally, The Grind is impressing me more and more.  The Experience is kind of a "mini-Grind" -- similar audio CDs in many ways (though the topics are different, and they go well as a set rather than one in the place of the other).  I need to spend more time with the DVDs before I write more on the topic, and I may not, -- you can visit him on the Internet and read what he has to say yourself.

Useful links include The Judo Forum (I've linked to the topic that convinced me that I did not know enough to post there); The Judo Information Site; and:

Find what fits you and what fits your needs.  Judo Success Secrets or a thousand other potential products are out there. You need to understand yourself and your Judo well enough to read reviews, talk to people and decide what you need next and what will take you to the next level.

On books:  go to your library, use interlibrary loan, and you can order anything.  You should never buy a martial arts book until you've read it twice for free.   On Masterclass Judo books, there are much cheaper places to buy them than Amazon, but it is a great place to read about them.
