SLD. Shangri la Diet. I use the initials instead of the name because
(a) most users of the diet or method do and (b) the name just doesn't grab
me. The first wave of users got to name the diet. I was in the
second wave.
It works for me. I went from 245 to 200 and decided to try Judo again.
Kept on SLD and went from 200 to below 170.
I enjoyed Judo, a lot, but.
Three years before, when I started lifting, between bad posture, a lot of
fat and bad training at Balley's (on how to use a heavy bag) I inflamed my
rotator cuffs, so my upper body missed three years of strengthening. I
finally saw a doctor and as I lost weight and improved my posture the problem
went away like magic. Stupid me for waiting so long.
That was to be a problem with Judo. My shoulders started bothering
me. Every month they got worse. Because it was referred pain,
not direct (and didn't feel my my prior problem) I thought it was just sore
muscles. But it got really bad. I couldn't raise my arms.
Finally, I had to quit Judo. Eventually, I went back to the doctor.
The stretches they gave me didn't work. After laying off the weights
for eight months, I began to lift again. Finally I got a copy of Jim
Johnson's book and my shoulders are my own again.
Now for personal rasons, I had moved my weight to 189 and kept it there a
couple of years. But I've let it slide down again. Losing weight
I shrank a little, from almost 5'6" to 5'5" now. I thought I was supposed
to get taller with the weight no longer holding me down ;)
But I have some strength and some hope now, where I did not have it before.
On books: go to your library, use interlibrary loan, and you
can order anything. You should never buy a martial arts book until
you've read it twice for free. On Masterclass Judo books,
there are much cheaper places to buy them than Amazon, but it is a great
place to read about them.
.
That goes double for SLD. Everything you need to know is available
for free, on the internet, at the
free official forums
or
in
blogs. |
