Do you want to go to graduate school?

Thinking about getting a Ph.D? Try lying down until the feeling goes away. Didn’t work? Try (1) Tim Burke on how to tell whether you really want a Ph.D. (Short answer: probably not.) If you persist anyway and find yourself starting a program somewhere at the moment, then (2) Total Drek provides 22 Unhelpful Hints about making the best of it. They’re very good. And so are (3) My co-blogger Fabio Rojas’s Grad Skool Rulz.

I’ve had a few calls about setting up graduate or PhD programs in ADR. My current thinking is that they should set up a PhD or DBA program (the doctorate in business) with a focus on the CMD (Conflict Management Division) and with a secondary focus on HR and Conflict Resolution. Their graduates will readily find employment and always be able to further their education.
From the PhDProject FAQ:
I have been in Corporate America for more than 10 years. Is it too late to consider pursuing a career as a Business School Professor?
Not at all! Many of the Ph.D.’s who have come through The PhD Project, have done so after spending a significant period of time in another career. Doctoral students come in all ages – from recent college graduates to mid-career professionals.and
What costs are associated with pursuing a Ph.D.?
Unlike undergraduate and graduate schools, most doctoral programs waive tuition and fees.and
What can I expect to earn as a Business School Professor?
Based on feedback from recent Ph.D.’s., average 9-month salaries can range between $70,000 - 100,000 depending upon discipline, with the opportunity for substantial additional compensation for summer research and teaching assignments (See Academic Jobs Sites.)Read more about salaries for business school professors in The BizED article, “The Professor’s Paycheck, written by Dan Le Clair.
Ask yourself what other graduate program out there has more teaching jobs open than graduates and pays as well. The business doctorate is shorter than most (takes less time), more employable and has a lot of extremely interesting material in it. If you want to pursue graduate level ADR/Conflict Resolution, there are many harder, longer and more difficult paths to follow.
Once you have a PhD and begin to teach, you are only starting to learn for the rest of your life.

I have Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Professional Studies MPS (Hons) in Peace Studies and currently pursuing PhD in Peace Studies. I am interested in DBA program (the doctorate in business) with a focus on the CMD (Conflict Management Division) and with a secondary focus on HR and Conflict Resolution. Can you tell me more?

Visit the Conflict Management Division website and contact people in those programs about being admitted to a program they are involved in. You seem like a perfect match.

Hi there, nice site with good info. I really like coming back here often. There’s only one thing that annoys me and that is the misfunctioning of comment posting. I usually get to 500 error page, and have to do the post twice.
